Hashtag Kalakar is organizing an online Short Film Making competition to give wings to the talent of many.

Many aspiring content creators choose to enter talent competitions. It is a great way of getting noticed in the industry and gaining exposure to a wider audience. They can also be a strong way to develop as an creator and also develop confidence as a performer.

It’s a great way to get exposure in the art and entertainment industry and meet people who could potentially help you in the future. Whatever stage you’re at, an art and painting competition is designed to test your abilities against other performers and help you improve.

Details About The Competition

  1. Submit Original 2-15 Minutes Short Film.
  2. Genre is not a barrier; you are free to come up with any idea that has to do with the theme/topic.
  3. Your story should be compelling so unleash your creativity and let loose your innovative skills.
  4. All films will go live together as per the Calendar dates, but the films uploaded early will get the top slot in the grid.
  5. Maximum size of the short film: 5 GB.
  6. 75% Votes will be given by the Jury and 25% audience votes will be considered. (Voting details will be sent to registered participants)
  7. All the short films will be featured on the website for voting on 11th October 2021.

Competition Rounds

Competition is divided into 2 rounds.
Round 1:
Poster Submission (In this round participants will have to submit the posters of their short films, In This round there will not be any elimination)
Rounds 2: Short Film Submission (Submission of the short film after final edits)
All the short films will be featured on the website for voting on 11th October 2021.

Perks of the Competition

  1. First Prize will receive Rs.50,000/-.
  2. Second Prize will receive Rs.35,000/-.
  3. Top 5 short films will be featured on Time Business News.

How To Register?

  1. Pay the registration fee.
  2. Post registration within 24 hours link to submit writing will be sent on registered mail ID. [Do enter correct mail ID while registering and after 24 hours if you don’t find submission link on your mail box, do check your spam box as well.]
  3. Submission has to be done before last date of submission.
  4. Makes sure you are doing one submission at a time.

Competition Rules

  1. The entries can be documentaries, short films, animations or experimental art forms.
  2. DURATION: The films shall not be more than 15 (Fifteen) minutes (900 seconds), including the beginning and end credits. Films exceeding this time limit are liable to be rejected. The minimum length should be 120 seconds including credits.
  3. The film should have been shot / completed after 1st January 2020.
  4. The short films may be in their original language, but MUST be subtitled in ENGLISH. Films submitted previously to any other festival will not be considered for this contest. If found later, will be disqualified for the contest/prize withheld.
  5. FORMAT: The films may be shot in MP4 format. The recommended ratios are: 16:9 / 16:9 Full Height Anamorphic – in DV / HDV.
  6. There should not be any brand promotion in the short film.
  7. COPYRIGHT: The Film must not contain any copyrighted work(s) belonging to third parties unless (1) Participants have a license to use such works in the Film; or (2) the use participants’ Film makes of such works is a fair one under the copyright laws. Participants will retain any licenses and provide them to organizers upon request.
  8. Ensure that all content in your film (including footage, music, images, props, etc.) is your own. If you include any copyrighted or trademarked content, you must be able to provide written permission for its use. Entries containing any unauthorized content will be disqualified.
  9. Films once entered cannot be withdrawn.
  10. Multiple entries are allowed.
  11. There is no age limit for the participants
  12. Copyright: The participant will retain the copyrights of the film.

Technical specs:

We are accepting Full HD. Tech specs are being updated

– Max. resolution 1920 x 1080 px. Minimum resolution: 720 x 576 FHA / 1024×576 px.
– If your aspect ratio is 4:3, pillar box it into a 16:9 ratio (black bars on sides).
– Please save as a .mp4 file.
– Audio 16 / 24 bit and 44.100/48kHz – depending on the codec
– Your framerate should be the Irish standard 25fps.
– File names cannot include special characters. Spaces to replaced by _
– Sound will not be compressed for theatre screenings, but peaks are adjusted on the same level.
– Keep a copy of the original / master for yourself.
– Size of the submitted short film should not be more than 5GB.

In the beginning of your film, insert 5 seconds of bars and tone.
After bars and tone, add 5 seconds of black, after which 5 seconds of this slate:


White text on black background. Use sans serif font (such as Arial / Helvetica) so that the text covers appr. 3/4 of the frame.

The end credits of your film should include following text:

Remember to check your movie file. If it’s not viewable, it will be disqualified.
